Jesse Lingard makes promise after Nottingham Forest injury setback

Nottingham Forest midfielder Jesse Lingard has made a vow as he continues his recovery from a hamstring injury.

The 30-year-old has made 16 appearances for the Reds since signing as a free agent from Manchester United, twice scoring in the Carabao Cup. Lingard ’s form appeared to be improving in a Forest shirt as the team began to string results together before he suffered an injury setback.

Lingard was taken off early against his former club last month, going down in the second half after sprinting for a ball. Manager Steve Cooper subsequently confirmed that the England international had suffered a hamstring injury and would be out of action for a month.

It would have been a huge blow for Lingard, who appears to be enjoying his new lease of life at the City Ground. He has certainly been paying close attention to Forest’s fortunes as he showed after the team’s draw with Chelsea.

Approaching the midway point in his rehabilitation, the midfielder posted a picture of him in a Forest shirt and made a promise to supporters: “Miss this. Soon back stronger.”

It will be a watching brief once again for Lingard on Wednesday night as Forest take on Wolves in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals. Based on the timeline offered by Cooper, he will also miss the league games against Leicester City and Bournemouth but could possibly make his return against Leeds United on February 4.
