Jess Glynne 'splits from her record label' in 'tough' career blow after low album sales

Jess Glynne has reportedly split from her record label after the disappointing sales of her latest album.

The Rather Be singer, 35, signed with EMI - which also represents Taylor Swift and Elton John - in November 2022 after cutting ties with Atlantic.

However, Glynne and the label “decided to stop working together” after her third album, Jess, peaked at number six in its first week and dropped out of the charts entirely the following week.

The Grammy winner’s first two albums, 2015’s I Cry When I Laugh and 2018’s Always In Between, both hit number one.

She previously made history as the first British female solo artist to score seven number ones on the UK Singles Chart.

A source told The Sun: “Jess knows plenty about having massive hit singles, so there was a lot of excitement when she signed her deal with EMI Records.”

Glynne (pictured with girlfriend Alex Scott) had disappointing sales with her third album Jess (Jed Cullen/Dave Benett)

They went on: “But it’s not exactly been the fruitful relationship that either had hoped. The album didn’t do as well as anyone wanted, and none of the singles even graced the Top 40.”

The insider added that Glynne struggled getting back into the spotlight after a five-year hiatus that ended in 2023.

“She’s had a tough time reintroducing herself to the public after a few years away. Both she and the label decided it was for the best to stop working together,” they shared.

The source added that Glynne - who is dating former footballer Alex Scott - isn’t letting the departure “dampen her spirits” and is working on new music.

The Standard has contacted Glynne’s representative for comment.

Glynne scored all her number one songs between 2014 to 2018, starting with her Clean Bandit collaboration Rather Be and My Love with Route 94.

The popstar also hit the top spot with her solo tracks, Hold My Hand, Don’t Be So Hard On Yourself, and I’ll Be There.

Other collabs that topped the charts included Not Letting Go with Tinie Tempah and These Days with Rudimental and Macklemore.

Last year, Glynne was presented with a Brit Billion Award for achieving one billion streams in the UK.

She was given the award, which has been given to global stars The Rolling Stones and Abba, following the release of her third studio album.

Glynne said: “I am so grateful to be presented with this award and so overwhelmed by the continued love and support.

“To have over a billion streams in the UK feels very surreal and I can only say thank you to everyone who listens to my music and brings my stories and my voice into their world.

“I can only hope these songs do for you what they’ve done for me.

“It’s a real moment for me having just released my new album Jess after nearly six years, so to receive this award alongside that feels like a time to be celebrated.”

The Brit Billion Award was launched in 2023 and since then more than 25 artists have been recognised including Billie Eilish, Olivia Rodrigo, Lewis Capaldi and six-time Brit award-winner Raye.
