Former Germany defender Jérôme Boateng was found guilty of premeditated bodily harm against his former partner by a Munich court. The court handed Boateng a suspended fine of €200,000, which must only be paid if he commits another offense. The fine amounts to €5,000 per day for 40 days. In addition to the fine, Boateng was also ordered to pay a total of €100,000 to charity organizations.
The incident in question occurred during a vacation in 2018 when Boateng was accused of injuring his ex-girlfriend. The accusations included throwing objects at her, hitting her, and pulling her hair. Boateng denied causing any harm to his ex-girlfriend.
During the trial, the 2014 World Cup winner appeared in court wearing a dark blue suit. This was the third trial in the bodily harm case. State prosecutors had initially demanded a fine of €1.12 million.
Following the court's decision, Boateng expressed relief that the ordeal, which had lasted for years, was finally over. He stated that he now wants to focus on his family and football. Boateng recently transferred from Italy's Salernitana to Austria's LASK Linz.
The state prosecutors have one week to decide whether to appeal the case to Bavaria's top court. Boateng's legal team and media adviser have not made any further comments regarding the case.
