New England Patriots coach Jerod Mayo is confident the Patriots will be able to fill some of their biggest needs when the 2024 NFL draft kicks off at the end of April.
Patriots fans were underwhelmed by the team’s lack of additions at the wide receiver position. There was a bit of movement at the position in free agency with the team cutting DeVante Parker and signing K.J. Osborn.
Left tackle is also a need for the organization with Trent Brown walking in free agency and joining the Cincinnati Bengals.
Quarterback is the other obvious position of need for New England. So it’s clearly not a secret what the Patriots will be looking for on draft night, as Mayo explained at the NFL annual meeting.
“Those three positions that you just spoke of, I would say this draft has quite a few guys that can fill those roles.” Mayo said, as transcribed by NESN.com’s Sean T. McGuire.
New England could have a variety of options at all three positions, particularly at quarterback. Wide receiver is also a position with a ton of depth in this draft.
Receiver and quarterback may be viewed as the most pressing needs, but the tackle position, which is led by Notre Dame’s Joe Alt, has some intriguing options as well.
It all starts with the No. 3 overall pick for the Patriots. That selection could have a trickle down effect that impacts the entire draft board.
