New England Patriots coach Jerod Mayo appreciated the way his team answered his challenge by defeating the New York Jets.
Mayo minced no words when discussing his team’s performance in their loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 7. He called the team soft across the board, before backtracking on his comments shortly after. Nevertheless, his comments were a talking point throughout the week, leading up to Sunday’s game against the Jets.
“We played soft the last two games and that’s what I meant,” said Mayo, via A to Z Sports’ Sophie Weller. “And I would say those guys answered the challenge. I don’t think we have soft guys in the locker room. That’s just the way we played the last two weeks.”
The Patriots can undoubtedly use Sunday’s win as a way to build momentum for the rest of the season. This may be a rebuilding year, but that victory can be viewed as a positive for the direction of the franchise moving forward.
