New England Patriots coach Jerod Mayo didn’t sugarcoat things when breaking down quarterback Jacoby Brissett’s red zone interception in Thursday’s preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Brissett attempted to connect with tight end Austin Hooper on a play in the end zone, but cornerback Avonte Maddox read his eyes and snagged the interception.
It was a rough night overall for Brissett, who went 3-of-7 for 17 passing yards in the game.
“It was just forcing the play. He had other guys open. It was a poor play. It was a terrible play,” Judon told the media on Friday morning.

Brissett isn’t out of the quarterback competition by any stretch, but after that performance, an argument could be made that rookie quarterback Drake Maye closed the gap significantly.
We won’t have to wait too much longer to see if the coaching staff feels the same way. There’s only one more week of preseason football before decisions need to be made and the final roster gets constructed.
