Jerod Mayo explains why Patriots don’t plan on adding another veteran QB

New England Patriots coach Jerod Mayo indicated the team does not plan to add a veteran quarterback at this time. He denied the possibility on Wednesday morning when speaking with media members.

The first-year head coach believes rookie Drake Maye has played well enough in practice that the team doesn’t need to sign another veteran quarterback, per CLNS Media’s Taylor Kyles.

Jacoby Brissett is currently the starting quarterback for New England. He has recorded 368 passing yards and a touchdown so far this season. Maye made his NFL debut in Thursday night’s 24-3 loss to the New York Jets. He went 4-of-8 passing for 22 yards.

This piece of news is certainly intriguing, as it could mean Maye’s development process is on schedule.

Time will tell how the Patriots plan to handle the position for the rest of the season. The good news is the team has seen enough progress to feel comfortable with what they already have in the quarterback room.
