New England Patriots coach Jerod Mayo claimed rookie quarterback Drake Maye is beginning to assert himself more as a leader, following the team’s 19-3 win over the Chicago Bears on Sunday.
The North Carolina product helped keep the team ahead in the game, throwing for 184 yards, a touchdown and an interception. He went 15-of-25 in a game that was ultimately dominated by defense.
Not only is Maye making an impact on the football field, but Mayo claimed the 22-year-old quarterback is finding his voice in the locker room as well.
“Drake has addressed the offense numerous times,” said Mayo. “It goes back to, now he’s starting to take control of the offense and team. When you go out there and perform at a high level, that’s the first step. The next step is bringing others with you, and I think he’s on his way to doing that.”

Maye’s growth and development have been noticeable every week he steps onto the field. His confidence is growing by the week, and so is the confidence of the entire team as a result.
The Patriots have won two out of their last three games with the rookie quarterback finally starting to take charge.
