Jermaine Jenas gives honest verdict on 'lethargic' Tottenham performance against Sporting

Jermaine Jenas has blasted the Tottenham Hotspur players following their 2-0 defeat at Sporting CP in the Champions League. Spurs crumbled in the final moments during the clash in Lisbon, conceding two late goals as they fell to their first defeat of the group stage.

Tottenham were looking to follow up their 2-0 win over Marseille last week, but they are now three points behind Sporting who sit top of the group after two matches. Paulinho gave the Portuguese side the lead in the 90th minute, before Arthur Gomes wrapped up the points deep into stoppage-time.

The game was fairly even, with both teams having the same number of shots, but Tottenham couldn't hold on to what would have been a valuable point in the quest to qualify for their knockout stages.

Despite the defeat in Portugal being their first of the season in any competition, former Spurs midfielder Jenas has not been convinced by Spurs' performances so far this term and believes the players need to take responsibility for the defeat.

"They've got to have a look at themselves," Jenas told BT Sport post-match.

"Performances have been very lethargic, they've got to pick it up and they've got to pick it up quick because that was miles off."
