Jermaine Beckford outlines why Leeds United and Leicester are both stuck in relegation battle

Jermaine Beckford has claimed Leeds United's 1-1 draw against Leicester City showcased why both clubs are fighting it out at the bottom end of the table.

Leeds climbed two points clear of danger, while Leicester moved one point above the bottom three. Leeds ended a run of three straight defeats, but stretched their winless run to four in the Premier League.

The Whites missed out on a golden chance to extend the gap between themselves and the relegation zone to four points, and squandered a number of gilt-edged chances in the latter stages.

Luis Sinisterra opened the scoring with a back post header in the 20th minute before Jamie Vardy equalised 10 minutes from time. Although Leicester arguably posed the biggest attacking threat, Daniel Iversen was called into action twice in quick succession to thwart Marc Roca and Brenden Aaronson.

Then Patrick Bamford inexplicably fluffed his lines with the goal at his mercy. Although Beckford acknowledged Leeds' solid defensive performance, he admitted both sides' difficulties in front of goal serve as a major factor behind their relegation struggles.

"It’s the reason these sides are both down the bottom of the league, because they’re both not great in front of goal and they both concede goals," Beckford told BT Sport.

"Leicester were brilliant today, there is no doubting that. They were the better side in terms of the attacking threat, the way they played football, and this man right here - James Maddison - was absolutely unplayable.

"He’s fantastic, pulled the strings, dictated play. Jamie Vardy made a massive, massive difference when he came on as well but Leeds United were stubborn in defence and that’s the difference."
