Jeremy Corbyn's sons hit out at Labour

Londoner’s Diary

Jeremy Corbyn’s three sons have hit out at the Labour Party and its “smear” campaign against their father. In a joint Instagram post, Seb, Ben and Thomas Corbyn write that “there is no British political leader that has been subjected to more smears, sabotage or systematic media attacks during our lifetimes than our dad.” They describe Labour as “backed by Tory billionaires as well as The Sun newspaper,” and say that the party “demeaned themselves” in the campaign they ran against Corbyn.

On Thursday Jeremy Corbyn was re-elected as MP for Islington North, the seat he has held for 41 years. For the first time he won the constituency as an independent after he was blocked from standing as the Labour candidate. Corbyn’s sons say that Labour “spent vast resources on trying to unseat our MP” and “continued to use their spokespeople on the national media to smear our dad.” Nevertheless, Corbyn beat the Labour candidate, Praful Nargund, by over 7,000 votes. “We’re beyond proud that our community of Islington North stood by him,” the post concludes

Politics can often divide families, but it seems that Corbyn and his children live in ideological harmony. The former Labour leader went leafletting around Islington with his sons during the campaign, and they were all at the count in the early hours of Friday morning when Corbyn’s victory was announced. “Smashed it,” wrote Tommy Corbyn on X.

The sons have close ties to the constituency. Tommy Corbyn runs a CBD shop called the National Hemp Service in Finsbury Park, while Ben Corbyn is the founder of a football school based in Tufnell Park.
