Jeremy Clarkson sparks uproar as he says school is for 'smoking and sh**ging - not swotting'

Jeremy Clarkson has insisted school is "for smoking and sha*ging" and "not swotting" as he thinks school kids are put under too much pressure.

The former Top Gear host, 63, has admitted he thinks teenagers have been put under too much pressure when it comes to studying for their exams.

Jeremy is known for his annual posts on A Level results day where we often talks about flunking his own exams.

The TV presenter has taken to Twitter every single A-level results day since 2014, to share the fact that he only got a C and two Us in his exams 40-odd years ago, but still did pretty well for himself.

The Clarkson's Farm star said: "I tell this story to kids, hoping they’ll realise that school is for smoking and sha*ging, not swotting.

"But they all have it in their heads that without four A*s and a first from Oxford, they’re going to spend their lives endlessly asking customers if they’ve ever been to a Harvester before."

He told the Daily Star: "This makes them all unbelievably stressy. If you then throw the teachers strike into the mix, you end up with what we must now call a 'mental health epidemic'."

Jeremy explained exam results only really matter "if you want to be a doctor or a lawyer" and need professional qualifications.

He admitted to employing a man on his farm last month and didn't ask whether he had any qualifications from school or if he'd been to university.

In August 2014, Jeremy tweeted: “If your A level results aren't joyous take comfort from the fact I got a C and two Us. And I have a Mercedes Benz.”

The following year, he added: “If your A level results aren't great, be cheered by the fact that I got a C and two Us. And I'm currently sitting in a villa in St Tropez.”

“Don’t worry if your A level results are disappointing. I got a C and 2 Us and I’m currently holidaying on this boat," he wrote in 2022 accompanied by a picture of a yacht.

The car fanatic is thought to be worth more than £50 million and earns an impressive amount from Amazon and ITV, with them reportedly paying him a combined £13 million each year.
