There's been some serious backlash to the Jeremy Clarkson-penned column in The Sun where he wrote about 'despising Meghan Markle on a cellular level' and compared the Duchess of Sussex to Rose West - but the most stinging has come from his own daughter, Emily.
The podcast host doubled down on comments she shared last week about the 'rhetoric around' Meghan being scary and today, after her father's comments in the newspaper had gone viral, posted that "I want to make it clear that I stand against everything that my dad wrote about Meghan Markle and I remain standing in support of those that are targeted with online hatred."
Emily had earlier reposted a status from Instagram saying that her 'steadfast defence' of the couple comes from the way they have been treated and that it amounts to bullying. She wrote: "My steadfast defence of them has never been of the individuals I don't know, rather of two people who have, objectively, been treated APPALLINGLY. And I genuinely feel concern for anyone who can look at how she particularly has been written/joked/spoken about and feel that it's justified. It's bullying on a mass scale and it drove a new mother to want to end her life."
Jeremy Clarkson's comments have drawn backlash, he wrote: ""Meghan, though, is a different story. I hate her. Not like I hate Nicola Sturgeon or Rose West. I hate her on a cellular level." He also went on to claim that 'everyone his age' feels the same and hoped the Duchess might be 'made to parade naked in the street.'
Others to hit out at the former Top Gear presenter, who once again trotted out some boring cliches about the Welsh language on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire a few series ago, include Carol Vorderman who tweeted: "NO Jeremy Clarkson. Not on any level, in any circumstance, is it ok to write this stuff about any woman & absolutely NO to "everyone who's my age thinks the same".
