Jeremy Clarkson promises to buy a pint for Londoners in the same pub as him on December 1

Raise a toast: Clarkson with his beer

Jeremy Clarkson, the farmer, is promising to buy Londoners a pint tomorrow, December 1, if they happen to be in the same pub as him.

The Grand Tour host is popping into pubs across town in order to promote his lager, Hawkstone. Though brewed in Gloucestershire by the Cotswold Brewing Co, the beer is made using ingredients grown on Clarkson’s Diddly Squat farm, which has been the star of a television show of the same name since summer last year.

As part of his promotions, Clarkson is said to be visiting at least nine London pubs which all stock Hawkstone, and will buy any Londoner who happens to be in one at the same time as him a pint of said beer. The pubs are:

  • The Grafton, Kentish Town
  • Sir John Balcombe, Marylebone
  • The Duchess, Bond Street
  • Bonds, Mayfair
  • Clerk & Well, Farringdon
  • The White Haus, Farringdon
  • Marquis of Westminster, Pimlico
  • Blue Anchor, Hammersmith
  • Royal Oak, Twickenham

The Standard could not confirm what time Clarkson would begin his tour but it’s thought he will begin at the Grafton, which opens at 11am. Beware that the Duchess opens at 10am, as does Bonds, so they may in fact come prior.

Hawkstone was originally launched in pubs in Oxfordshire at the start of this year, and Clarkson has claimed previously he wanted to call it Lager McLagerface. The former Top Gear host is more usually associated with rosé wine, but granted it’s more tricky to get a decent rosé out of farmland in the Cotswolds.

Last month the journalist revealed in his Times column that he had considered quitting farming owing to concerns over the cost of fertiliser.
