Jeremy Clarkson left speechless by Who Wants To Be A Millionaire contestant's 'never seen before' move

Jeremy Clarkson was left visibly gobsmacked after witnessing a contestant on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire pull off a “never seen before” move.

The TV presenter praised the man called Kevin's “absolutely tremendous” tactics after he reached the £125,000 mark without using a single lifeline or setting a safety net on Sunday night’s episode.

The lifeline options are an integral part of the game show and include 50:50 where two wrong answers are taken away, phone a friend, ask the audience or ask the host.

Once Kevin hit the £125,000 mark, Clarkson asked: “Absolutely tremendous. I don't think I've ever asked this before... Do you want to set your safety net at £125,000?”

Kevin responded: “I will set it at that.”

Clearly blown away, The Grand Tour star then replied: “You will set it at that? And all lifelines left. This is... wow. My fingers are crossed here. This is something special.”

Unfortunately, Clarkson may have jinxed him by saying that as he soon used up all his lifelines and was left flummoxed by the £500,000 question.

The question was: “According to their official measurements, which of these paintings is the smallest?”

The four possible answers were The Starry Night, Mona Lisa, Girl With a Pearl Earring or American Gothic.

After using his phone-a-friend, Kevin decided not to risk it and ended up walking away with a respectable £250,000.

The correct answer for those wondering was Girl With a Pearl Earring.

People watching at home had been every inch as invested in Kevin’s success as Clarkson was and rushed to social media to offer their congratulations.

“He won £250k. I thought he might go all the way for a moment. #WhoWantsToBeAMillionaire.”, wrote one person on X, formerly Twitter.

“Good decision, Kevin. That was an awesome game there & he heads off with £250k!! #WhoWantsToBeAMillionaire.”, penned a second.

While a third concurred: “Absolutely correct decision by Kevin. Respect to him for the way he played. #whowantstobeamillionaire.”

Clarkson has been in the hosting the much loved ITV game show since 2018 after it was revived following a four-year hiatus.

Previous host Chris Tarrant stepped down in 2014 after serving on the show for 15 years.

At the time of exiting the programme, Tarrant said: “I am privileged to have been a part of it, but do now feel that it is time for me to call it a day. I've worked ridiculously hard these last few years and to quote myself, 'it's time to take a break'.”
