Jeremy Clarkson says the Government should pay school leavers a state pension for 10 years. Writing in his often-controversial column, the long-time TV presenter said: "this is when you want retirement pay" to better "enjoy anything you care to throw at it".
The Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? presenter compared it to being of the current pension age when "your organ is broken and your joints are better at forecasting the weather than the Met Office".
Clarkson went on to say "old people are so much better" to employ because "they don’t need binary lavatories, because they are often in nappies; and they don’t need to rush off every five minutes to get a morning-after pill".
He said: "If you are an employer and you take on a school-leaver today, you will need to provide them with whatever sort of lavatory they think they need that week, a hotline to HR and a safe space where they can spend a few hours every afternoon being 'in the moment', which is important for their mental health. The result, if you employ a lot of school-leavers, is that you will soon go bankrupt."
His column has unsurprisingly sparked a backlash, with one man tweeting: "That just proves what a p**t this man is."
Another wrote: "#Clarkson is now basing his entire business model on being a grumpy senile old man. Anyone under 50 is alleged to be useless. #Clarkson is pointless."
Clarkson has recently been dropped by Amazon Prime after his hugely controversial column about Meghan Markle.
Sources say that Clarkson won't be working with Amazon Prime outside of seasons of The Grand Tour and Clarkson's Farms which have already been commissioned.
His Meghan column became the Independent Press Standard Organisation's most complained-about article since it was formed in 2014. It garnered almost 21,000 complaints with The Sun issuing an apology a week after it was published.
Clarkson also personally apologised to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex as well as issuing a public statement saying he was 'mortified'.
