Jeremie Frimpong post Celtic rise continues with Leverkusen goal and assist in big Bundesliga win

Jeremie Frimpong played a key role for Bayer Leverkusen as his post Celtic progress continues with a goal AND an assist.

The former Hoops star was heavily involved early on with two key involvements inside the opening 20 minutes as his side ran out big 4-1 winners over Hertha Berlin. His first moment was setting up the first goal of the game as the full-back went on the overlap before showing good power and pace as he burst into the box and cut the ball back for Sardar Azmoun to slide the ball home.

Less than 10 minutes later he was on the attack again as he joined Moussa Diaby down the right side. The attacker picked him out unmarked ten yards from goal with the one-time Manchester City man hitting his effort first time. The goalkeeper got a hand on it with the ball striking the defender on the line and rolling into the net. The full-back was all smiles as he wheeled away in celebration.

Diaby grabbed the third of the game on the hour with Amine Adli also on target with just under 20 minutes to play in a convincing win. The result pushes Leverkusen into ninth spot in the standings. They face a big challenge to secure European football next term with Frankfurt in sixth spot eight points ahead with just 11 games to play.

Next up is the Europa League for Frimpoing and Co as they face Ferancvaros in the last 16 as they bid to reach the quarter-final stage. Victory in this tournament would not only secure the famous trophy but also a spot in the Champions League next term.

Things don't get much easier in the Bundesliga with Werder Bremen on the road sandwiched between the two legged Euro tie before Bayern Munich come calling.
