Jeremie Frimpong helps Leverkusen to Europa League semi-final as ex-Celtic man faces Jose Mourinho

Jeremie Frimpong is dreaming of Europa League glory after helping Bayer Leverkusen reach the semi-final.

The former Celtic defender capitalised on an error from the Union Saint-Gilloise goalkeeper to put his side three to the good in Belgium with the Bundesliga outfit running out big 4-1 winners on the night and 5-2 on aggregate to set up a mouthwatering last four clash with Jose Mourinho and his Roma side - who lifted the Europa Conference League trophy last season.

Moussa Diaby handed the German outfit the perfect start by finding the back of the net after just two minutes before Mitchel Bakker doubled their advantage before the break. Frimpong then got in on the act on the hour mark as the Leverkusen attack put goalkeeper Anthony Moris under extreme pressure with his clearance landing at the feet of the full-back who had the simple task of slotting the ball home.

Terho grabbed a goal back for the home side to give them slim hope of a fight back in front of their home fans but Adam Hlozek put the game to bed with 11 minutes remaining to hand Frimpong and Co a big win on the road and a place in the last four.

The former Celtic man has been catching the eye this season with his performances and is reported to have interest from the likes of Manchester United in a deal that could cost a whopping £50million.

He joined the Scottish champions from Manchester City before his form captured the eye of the German top flight outfit who shelled out a reported fee in the region of £12m for his services. That landed the Hoops a big profit and they could land another windfall should he depart in a big money summer move due to a sell-on clause.

The 22-year-old will get the chance to impress further on the big stage as he bids to reach the Europa League final next month. The first meeting takes place on May 11 with the second-leg one week later on May 18.
