Forward-thinking Celtic are in line for a significant fee if former star Jeremie Frimpong departs Bayer Leverkusen this summer.
The Premiership champions inserted a significant sell-on fee when the 22-year-old left for the Bundesliga in January 2021 and are poised to cash in amid significant interest. Arsenal appear the new favourites to secure the rampaging right-back after signing off on Jurrien Timber and Declan Rice. Manchester United remain long-term admirers, however multiple reports suggest other positions come first for Erik Ten Hag. Real Madrid are also keen but Florentino Perez has insisted in recent days his side are playing it cool in the wake of Jude Bellingham and Joselu's arrivals, as well as the uncertainty surrounding Kylian Mbappe's future with Paris Saint-Germain.
And now one transfer expert is adamant Xabi Alonso's Leverkusen have a firm valuation for one of their keys assets if suitors turn interest into formal bids. And this is good news for Celtic who also sold Jota to Saudi Arabia for £25m. Fabrizio Romano – speaking on the Born and Red YouTube Channel - said: “He has new agents now, or better to say that his original agents parted with new agents, so this is what was going on. From what I’m hearing, this is an expensive player this summer.
"I’m told that Bayer Leverkusen could start negotiations only from £35m. There was a big opportunity in January as they were happy with £20m-£25m, now it’s around £35m, so it’s way more expensive.
“I think this is difficult but Frimpong is prepared to make his move and the priority of Frimpong is to go to the Premier League. So, let’s see if some clubs will put the money on the table, but at the moment not, but let’s see.”
