Jeremiah Smith is Ohio State’s first ever true freshman Iron Buckeye

When the Ohio State football team was able to get the commitment of five-star talent Jeremiah Smith, it knew it was getting a future superstar.

Filling the void of Marvin Harrison Jr. — who went No. 4 in the 2024 NFL Draft —  is no easy feat, but if there’s a player ready to take on that mission, it’s Smith. How well has he been playing so far through the preseason practices? Well, to answer that, Smith was named an “Iron Buckeye,” a label never before put on a true freshman.

Only ten players are named Iron Buckeyes for Ohio State each season, and the nomination goes to show his incredible leadership potential and influence on both the roster and coaching staff.

Smith, TreVeyon Henderson, Emeka Egbuka, Josh Fryar, Donovan Jackson, Lathan Ransom, Ty Hamilton, Sonny Styles, Carson Hinzman and Cody Simon all earned Iron Buckeye status as training camp continues. The honor, according to longtime strength coach Mick Marotti, recognizes “unquestionable training, dedication, determination, discipline, toughness and leadership.”

Here’s the official Ohio State release as well.

Smith, who was the No. 1 overall recruit coming out of the Class of 2024, has the potential to be among the best receivers in Ohio State history and should be able to make an immediate impact that most at the position failed to do.

That said, with the season-opening game on August 31, there’s just a few short weeks separating Buckeyes fans with the debut of Smith. Let’s hope it’s a good one!
