Jeremiah Green - one of the founding member of indie rock band Modest Mouse - has tragically died aged just 45.
The drummer, whose stage four cancer diagnosis was revealed by his mother last week, died on New Year's Eve.
Sharing the sad news on their Instagram account, the band said that they "lost [their] dear friend".
Attached to a picture of Jeremiah, the caption read: "I don’t know a way to ease into this: Today we lost our dear friend Jeremiah. He laid down to rest and simply faded out.
"I’d like to say a bunch of pretty words right now, but it just isn’t the time. These will come later, and from many people. Please appreciate all the love you give, get, have given, and will get.
"Above all, Jeremiah was about love."
Heartbroken fans took to the comments to share their condolences, with one writing: "I’ll never forget this one. How I met him and also learned about Modest Mouse: sometime in the 90s (obviously) he was standing in the women’s bathroom at the Velvet Elvis in Seattle, handing out flyers to a MM show. With this interaction managing to be hilarious and not at all creepy, I genuinely credit him with my early openness to all-gender restrooms. Rest in Power, Jeremiah."
While another commented: "Total legend, nicest dude ever so sad good memories hanging with him in 90s at old Cha Cha."
Jeremiah founded Modest Mouse in 1992 with lead singer and guitarist Isaac Brock and bassist Eric Judy. Over the years, the band underwent multiple changes in its members and managed to achieve mainstream success with fourth album Good News for People Who Love Bad News in 2004.
News of Jeremiah's death comes just days after his mum Carol Namatame said that her son was "hanging in there" and asked for everyone to "send healing vibes".
Carol wrote on Facebook last Sunday: "Please send healing vibes for my son, Jeremiah Green, who is battling stage 4 cancer. He is so strong and so brave and hanging in there!"
A friend of Jeremiah's - radio DJ Marco Collins - also claimed that he pulled out of the band's tour because he was undergoing chemo treatment.
