Jenny McCarthy has opened up about her painful recovery from brain surgery and has hailed Virgin Media for allowing her husband Martin King to be by her side.
The photographer to the stars and wife of Six O’Clock show presenter Martin underwent surgery on a brain tumour earlier this month, and unfortunately ended up back in hospital last week due to severe pain.
She has since returned home again, and told how grateful she is to be finally feeling better, with her hubby by her side.
Opening up about the tough few weeks of recovery so far, she said: “Unfortunately I had to go back into hospital last week because of nausea & severe headaches.
“I can’t begin to explain how painful the headaches have been.”
“Yesterday afternoon was the first day I started to feel a little better.
“Please god I will start to get better day by day.”
She went on: “I certainly didn’t expect this after effect that’s for sure.
“Thankfully my lovely hubby has another week off to help me.
“Virgin Media are just so so good to him.”
Taking to social media with the update for her friends and followers, she added: “Thanks for all of the wonderful messages.”
Speaking ahead of the surgery last month, her husband Martin said he had planned to take some time off work to look after Jenny, despite her own hesitations.
He said: “My wife is telling me not to and we are in the position where our children are a little bit older so they are a bit more responsible.
“So Jenny put things in place so I don’t need to take time off, but I will need to take some time off, especially when she first comes out of hospital so I’ll be there.
“More to babysit her to make sure she isn’t doing stuff and that she is minding herself and relaxing.”
A host of guest presenters, including Una Healy and Greg O’Shea, have been on hand to front the TV show in recent weeks in his absence.
In 2011, Jenny had a brain tumour successfully removed, but revealed new scans earlier this year signified that it was growing back.
She wrote: “Hello Everyone. So, I have some news… not the best news but not the worst news either.
“Some of you may already know that I had a brain tumour removed successfully in 2011 by an incredible person, Professor Ciaran Bolcer at Beaumont Hospital.
“Unfortunately, after a recent brain scan, it seems there is new activity. This means there is some ‘swollen tissue’ which is probably the tumour growing.”
After speaking to experts, she had “good news”, adding: “Good news is, it’s not malignant and Professor Bolger will need to carry out some more brain surgery to remove it.
“Ciaran has assured me that after surgery, I will need to take six weeks off but after that I’ll be back doing what I love and that’s documenting weddings, newborn baby & portrait shoots and of course, bringing out more incredible wedding and baby products.”
“I’ve decided to tell you all about this myself, before it gets out and reading it second hand,” she went on.
“I am going to get through this and I’ll be back to the same Jenny you all know in a matter of weeks. Love Jenny."
