Jennifer Lopez to get Generation Award at 2022 MTV Movie & TV Awards

Let’s get loud, J.Lo fans.

Jennifer Lopez is set to be honored with the Generation Award at the 2022 MTV Movie & TV Awards this Sunday, the cable channel announced Friday.

The award gives props to actors “whose diverse contributions to both film and television have turned them into household names,” according to MTV.

The Bronx, New York-born singer and actress, 52, known for songs like “If You Had My Love” and “Let’s Get Loud,” got her start as a Fly Girl dancer on the sketch comedy TV show “In Living Color” in the early 1990s.

She’s since appeared in films including “Selena,” “The Wedding Planner,” “Maid in Manhattan,” “Hustlers” and “Marry Me.”

And the documentary “Halftime,” making its world premiere on opening day of the Tribeca Festival in New York next Wednesday, will offer a look at her career and successes, including her Super Bowl halftime show in 2020.

“Jennifer Lopez is an award-winning actress, producer, singer, entertainer, and businesswoman who has helped to build billion-dollar brands and has established herself in film, music, television and business as one of the most influential artists in history,” MTV said in its announcement. “The only artist to ever have a number one album and number one film simultaneously, she has a cumulative worldwide box-office gross of over $3 billion.”

Actors who have scored the Generation Award before include Scarlett Johansson, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Chris Pratt, Will Smith, Reese Witherspoon, Robert Downey, Jr., Mark Wahlberg, Sandra Bullock, Jamie Foxx and Johnny Depp.

The MTV Movie & TV Awards, hosted by Vanessa Hudgens, air live from Santa Monica, California, at 8 p.m. ET Sunday on MTV as well as other channels including BET, Comedy Central and VH1. Top nominees include “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” “Euphoria” and “The Batman.”

Right after the Movie & TV Awards air, MTV will show the Movie & TV Awards: UNSCRIPTED, hosted by Tayshia Adams, at 10 p.m. Paying tribute to reality show drama, leading nominees for this special include “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” “Selling Sunset,” and “Summer House.”
