Divorces are never easy, and Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck's separation continues to draw public attention. One element of it that stood out is the engagement ring Lopez is keeping after the divorce, particularly due to its symbolic and monetary value.
The ring is more than just jewelry
The centerpiece of the ring is a remarkable 8.5-carat natural green diamond, surrounded by two white diamonds.
After J-Lo revealed the engagement in 2022, Mike Fried, CEO of The Diamond Pro, spoke with Page Six, describing the green diamond as exceptionally rare, highlighting its unique design and personal significance. "A green diamond of that size is incredibly rare and would dwarf the value of their previous engagement ring," he added.
The 6.1 carat pink diamond ring that Affleck had given her during their first engagement in 2002, was reportedly worth around $3.5 million.
Fried said that though the ring was originally valued at $5 million, it "could be worth over $10 million" due to its rarity.
Green is reportedly Jennifer's favorite color, and Affleck added a personal touch by engraving the phrase "Not going anywhere"—a reference to his early emails to the superstar—inside the band.
Despite their split, Lopez has no plans to return the valuable piece. A source close to the singer stated to OK Magazine that "It was a gift. Just because the relationship didn't work out doesn't mean she has to give it back. Jennifer has zero guilt about keeping it, and clearly Ben doesn't mind — he's done this twice already."
Reports indicate Lopez initiated the divorce due to "irreconcilable differences" after the relationship hit a breaking point. However, the separation seems amicable, with both agreeing to keep what they acquired individually during the marriage.
Neither Lopez nor Affleck will pay alimony.
Lopez's engagement ring collection
Lopez's prized jewelry collection now includes five engagement rings from her previous relationships. These include rings from Ojani Noa, Cris Judd, Marc Anthony, Alex Rodriguez, and the first engagement ring Affleck gave her during their initial romance.
