In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Jennifer Lopez discussed her newfound inspiration for creating music again. The multi-talented artist credited her rekindled relationship with Ben Affleck as one of the driving forces behind her desire to 'get back in the studio.'
Lopez, 54, is currently promoting her new cinematic original, This Is Me... Now: A Love Story, which serves as a musical and visual reimagining of her life events that have influenced her upcoming album, This is Me... Now.
'When Ben and I got back together, it was just like, 'I want to make music again, I want to get back in the studio,'' Lopez shared. 'I was very, very inspired.'
The singer and Affleck, 51, revived their relationship in 2021 and tied the knot in July 2022. Affleck even made an appearance in Lopez's latest visual project, alongside other notable figures like Post Malone, Fat Joe, Keke Palmer, Trevor Noah, and Sofia Vergara.
Reflecting on the process of creating This Is Me... Now: A Love Story, Lopez admitted to experiencing a mix of emotions. She revealed, 'Half the time, I was thinking, like, 'This is amazing! I am so excited that I'm doing this!' And then half the time, I was like, 'Why are you doing this? You are so crazy.''
Despite her uncertainties, Lopez believes that vulnerability is at the core of being an artist. She explained, 'That's the difference between being an artist and not being an artist, how vulnerable you can get.'
During a press conference with director Dave Meyers, Lopez shared that Affleck played a crucial role in boosting her confidence and quieting her doubts. She recalled a conversation where Affleck encouraged her to embrace her many talents: 'He was like, 'You do, you write, you direct, you produce, you choreograph, you do all the things. Start stepping into that, start owning a little bit of who you are.''
Meyers added that their rekindled romance greatly influenced the visuals of the project, noting that Lopez opened up about the pain she experienced during their initial breakup. One scene in the cinematic original depicts Lopez as a construction worker in a heart factory, which Meyers explained was inspired by the emotional intensity Lopez described.
With her ninth album set to release on February 16, Lopez is thrilled to share her new music with fans. She has already treated them to a taste of the album with singles like 'Can't Get Enough' and the title track, 'This Is Me... Now,' both of which she performed during her recent appearance as the musical guest on Saturday Night Live.
According to a source close to Lopez, now is the perfect time for her to focus on a new album. They stated, 'She’s loved creating new music. She's very excited about it.' The source also revealed that Affleck is incredibly proud of Lopez and supports her wholeheartedly, appreciating her dedication and work ethic.
As fans eagerly await the release of This is Me... Now, Jennifer Lopez's latest musical endeavor promises to provide an intimate glimpse into her personal journey, fueled by renewed inspiration and a powerful reconnection.
