Amy Schumer has enlisted the talents of Jennifer Coolidge for the upcoming second season of her Hulu series, Life & Beth. In a newly released clip, fans get a glimpse of Coolidge's cameo appearance in the third episode of the 10-episode season, set to be released in full on Thursday.
Coolidge, known for her role in the Emmy-winning series White Lotus, plays the character Madame de Merde, a New Orleans psychic. In the scene, Schumer's character, Beth, visits Madame de Merde for a reading and brings along another guest character, played by Amy Sedaris.
Interestingly, Schumer revealed that Coolidge and Sedaris originally had different roles. Coolidge was initially set to play a New Orleans wedding planner, while Sedaris was supposed to portray the psychic. However, the cast decided to switch their roles at the last minute, believing it would add more humor to the scene.
Schumer expressed her delight in working with Coolidge, stating that she had never laughed harder than when collaborating with the talented actress. Coolidge's connection to New Orleans, where the episode is set, made her casting even more serendipitous.
The second season of Life & Beth picks up two years after the release of the first season. Beth's relationship with John, played by Michael Cera, becomes more serious, prompting her to contemplate marriage and starting a family. The synopsis suggests that Beth's past traumas and trust issues may resurface, leading her to question her fears.
The show explores Beth's efforts to maintain her relationships while also supporting her friends and family, who are all facing their own challenges as they enter their forties. Returning cast members include Susannah Flood and Violet Young, along with recurring guest stars such as Kevin Kane, Yamaneika Saunders, Laura Benanti, Michael Rapaport, LaVar Walker, Sas Goldberg, Arielle Siegel, and Rosebud Baker.
Life & Beth is a dramedy inspired by Schumer's own life and is written, directed, and executive produced by the comedian herself. The series is produced by Fifth Season, with additional executive producers Daniel Powell, Ryan McFaul, and Kevin Kane.
Fans of the show can look forward to the second season's release on Thursday, where they will witness the comedic chemistry between Schumer and Coolidge, along with the intriguing storyline that delves into Beth's personal growth and relationships.
