If you can trust anybody to be ahead of a wellness trend, it's Jennifer Aniston. The actress first shared a glimpse of her spa bathroom in 2022, featuring a luxe steam shower that's an increasingly popular feature this year (but comes with a price tag). However, Jennifer Aniston's indoor-outdoor bathroom might just prompt us to make some form of investment.
While some spa bathroom ideas are more accessible (we're thinking about eucalyptus and Egyptian cotton towels), steam showers similar to Aniston's can cost as much as $25,000, according to some estimations. With this price tag comes an inevitable host of wellness benefits, including improved circulation, detoxification, reduced stress, and better skin – but is it worth it?
'Steam showers are definitely gaining popularity with homeowners, especially as wellness trends continue to influence design, comments Kellie Sirna, the owner and principal of Dallas-based firm Studio 11 Design.
'People are always looking for ways to enhance their living spaces with features that promote relaxation and health. A steam shower fits perfectly into that mindset.'
The entirety of Aniston's bathroom has a spa-like aesthetic, but as Sirna explains, this feature is one of the most impactful ways to bring a sense of luxury to your space.
'Adding a steam shower to your home is a great way to create a serene, spa-like atmosphere while also bringing a refined and elevated overall interior ambiance,' she says.
'Steam showers are a luxurious feature that can instantly upgrade your bathroom. They can improve circulation and detoxification, reduce stress, and even improve skin health by opening up pores compared to traditional shower designs. Plus, it can increase your home’s value and help maximize space and efficiency, especially in small bathroom spaces.'
As reports suggest, following Aniston's example can be expensive, but there are some ways to enjoy similar benefits on a more accessible scale. Firstly, Sirna recommends high-tech, temperature-controlled showerheads that are similarly becoming increasingly sought-after 'for their soothing water flow, mimicking natural rainfall for a calming experience.'
To take it further, she recommends pairing your shower with a fresh bunch of eucalyptus or aromatherapy tablets for the ultimate spa-inspired atmosphere. These spa bathroom must-haves will also enhance this look even further.
This slow-release candle is filled with the spa-like freshness of eucalyptus leaves, melding into an enchanting green forest. Plus, the recognizable glass holder looks beautiful on any bathroom shelf.
This bath towel set is made from premium fine-combed Egyptian cotton, which is one of the most absorbent materials on the market. Each of these towels features a neat locker loop, so you can easily hang it up when it's not on your ironing board.
This slatted design provides a non-slip surface to dry off when stepping out of a fresh, relaxing shower. It's a spa-bathroom must-have, whether you have a steam shower or not.
Soaking tubs are also on the rise, especially freestanding models whose design helps further lend to the luxe, tranquil retreat feel that homeowners are continuously seeking to evoke in their bathroom design,' she adds.
'Additionally, the use of natural materials like stone, wood, and bamboo are being used more to create a grounding, earthy feel for an even more immersive wellness experience, and transforming one's bathroom into their own personal sanctuary.'
