Jenna Ortega said she had to change her own lines on Wednesday

Jenna Ortega has called out the Wednesday writers and said she had to change her own lines.

The actress starred in the Netflix series, which quickly became one of the most popular shows on the platform. The series follows Wednesday Addams, and is inspired by the Addams family cartoons created by Charles Addams.

After season one premiered on Netflix, Jenna Ortega appeared on the Armchair Expert podcast to speak about her time on the show. She spoke about needing to change her own lines in secret while on the show, saying she was 'borderline unprofessional' due to her love and protectiveness over the character.

On the podcast, she said: "I don't think I've ever had to put my foot down on a set the way that I had to on Wednesday. It's so easy to fall into that type of category especially with this show.

"Everything that she does, everything that I had to play, did not make sense for her character at all. Her being in a love triangle made no sense, and there was a line about this dress that she had to wear for a school dance, and she said 'oh my god, I love it, ugh, I can't believe I said that, I literally hate myself' and I had to go, no.

"There was times on that set where I was even almost unprofessional, because I just started changing lines, and the script supervisor thought I was going with something and then I would have to sit down with the writers, who would be like wait what happened to this scene, and I would go through it with them."

She added: "I became very protective of her, but you can't lead a story and have no emotional arc, because then it's boring and nobody likes you. Wednesday is a teenager, when you're little and you say really morbid, offensive stuff it's funny, and endearing, and 'aw, you don't know any better', but when you become a teenager it's 'oh now you're being nasty and you know it', there's less excuse."

Netflix recently announced Jenna Ortega would be one of the executive producers on season two of the show, as well as starring.
