Jenna Coleman ‘doesn’t feel pressure to have children’ as she admits it is ‘wise’ to keep her love-life private

Jenna Coleman has told how she “doesn’t feel pressure” to have children, despite being surrounded by friends who are mothers.

The British actress, who has been widely praised for her role as Queen Victoria in hit ITV drama Victoria, told how she wants to “see the world” before settling down.

Appearing on the cover of Harper’s Baazar, Coleman said: “Half of my friends have babies, and half don’t, so it doesn’t feel like a pressure. I want to take my time.

“There’s a whole lot more of the world for me to see first. I’d love to have children one day. But not nine of them [like Queen Victoria]. I can tell you that as a fact.”

Speaking about her regal role, Coleman said she wasn’t given any notes by the royal advisor before she began filming.

She said: “What I’ve learned about playing power is, you don’t have to. We had a royal advisor in for a few days, and he didn’t give any notes to me.

"He just said to the others, ‘You have to imagine there’s an aura round this person.’ That’s the only way you can ever capture it, I suppose.”

The 32-year-old also opened up on how she felt it was “very wise” to keep her private life quiet, after she sparked speculation she got engaged to Victoria co-star Tom Hughes in 2017.

Coleman is gearing up to take on a new role as supporting actress in Arthur Miller’s play, All My Sons, admitting she has a “good fear” ahead of her performance.

She added: “I went for the part because of the nuance. Things appear a certain way, but underneath, there are politics, and family dynamics and push and pull.”

Victoria is set to return to screens later this year.

The April issue of Harper’s Bazaar UK is on sale from Thursday, March 7
