Jen Beattie set for new role after Arsenal confirm contract extension decision

Jen Beattie will continue her stay with Arsenal after signing a new contract extension. In addition to continuing as a player she will take on a new dual role mentoring role with the academy, working with the next generation of Arsenal talent. She will also contribute her expertise to the Gunners' commercial and partnerships teams.

Beattie is in her second stint at the club after spending four years with them between 2009 and 2013 in which she won two FA Cups, two League Cups and one Women's Premier League. She then left to join French side Montpellier before returning to England with Manchester City before rejoining Arsenal after a loan spell with Australian side Melbourne City.

The Scottish international has 134 appearances for the Gunners, having scored 30 goals along the way. The news of her extension signals the continuation of a series of important contract renewals after Vivianne Miedema and Caitlin Foord committed their futures to the north London side last month.

Beattie is an immensely popular member of the Arsenal dressing room. In 2021 she was awarded the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Helen Rollason Award, for outstanding achievement in the face of adversity after bouncing back from a breast cancer diagnosis and continuing playing.

“I’ve really enjoyed the past three seasons, but I’ve still got so much to achieve as part of this club and I’m excited to extend,” she said. “This is the club that gave me my first real opportunity in football – I was an 18-year-old kid coming down here initially and obviously I’ve gone on and played elsewhere in between, but to be a part of it now… it’s close to home and it’s a special club. Being a part of the players and the staff we have, I really feel this is a club going in the right direction."

“I’m very happy that Jen will be staying with us," manager Jonas Eidevall went on to add. "Her experience and professionalism are so important for us as a squad and I know she will continue to make a key contribution both on and off the pitch, with the first team and with the young players in our academy set-up.”
