Jeff Ulbrich named New York Jets interim head coach

The Robert Saleh era with the New York Jets is over.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the New York Jets have fired their head coach.

But someone has to do the job now… and it’s going to be Jeff Ulbrich.

Per Schefter, the defensive coordinator has been handed the interim head coach position:

Ulbrich, 47, joined the Jets in 2021 when Saleh took over as the team’s head coach. Prior to that, he was the Atlanta Falcons’ defensive coordinator and linebackers coach.

Under Ulbrich’s watch alongside Saleh, New York’s defense ranked last in the NFL in yards allowed per game in his first season with the team. However, the unit rebounded to finish fourth and third in 2022 and 2023, respectively. The Jets currently rank second (255.8 YPG).

Prior to his coaching career, Ulbrich played 10 seasons in the NFL with the San Francisco 49ers from 2000 to 2009. The Niners selected him in the third round of the 2000 NFL draft out of Hawaii.

In 2010, Ulbrich’s coaching career began as a special teams assistant with the Seattle Seahawks.
