Jeff Carson dead: Country music singer dies from heart attack aged 58

Country music star Jeff Carson has died from a heart attack aged 58, his publicist has said.

The singer - best known for 1995 hits The Car and Not on Your Love - died on March 26 at the Williamson Medical Center in Franklin, Tennessee.

Since his retirement from music in 2009, he has been working as a police officer in the Franklin Police Department.

During his career, he wrote for a number of well-known singers, including country legend Faith Hill, and recorded demos for Tracy Lawrence, Tim McGraw and Reba McEntire, among many others.

He had 14 singles reach the Billboard chart during his career after receiving a recording contract at Curb Records in 1995.

Singer Bryan White paid tribute to Carson on Twitter, expressing his sadness over his death.

He wrote: "He was a tremendous singer and one of the kindest people I’ve ever met ... I’ll see you on the good side buddy."

Colleagues at the Frankin Police Department also shared their heartbreak over the news, with his employer's official Twitter account writing: "It’s hard to believe he’s gone.

"One thing is for certain — Franklin Police Officer #JeffCarson changed everyone he met, all of us, for the better! Thank you, Jeff, for your life of service & song. May his message live on: God Save The World."

His friends also took to social media to share their condolences, with one writing: "Very well said Charlie. I too say thank you to Jeff for his service, Faith, and friendship over the years. Prayers for Kim, his family, and my FPD family."

While another commented: "Thank you for posting. I was his Manager for a number of years. He loved his job and life. He will be missed."
