Amazon overlord Jeff Bezos and journalist Lauren Sánchez are being trolled on social media after their wedding invites were leaked, and TBH, I’m definitely NOT a graphic designer… but surely not this, right?
ICYMI, billionaire tech tycoon Bezos and Sánchez are set to officially tie the knot later this week in a lavish three-day event in Venice.
According to Luca Zaia, the president of the Veneto regional government which includes Venice, the wedding is expected to cost 40-48 million euros (AUD$71-85 million) and is rumoured to host a bunch of celebrities including Kim Kardashian, Gayle King, Oprah Winfrey and Orlando Bloom, who’s rumoured to be going rogue at the nuptials following his alleged split with pop star Katy Perry.
While the event has been clocked with a shit tonne of controversy, most recently, the pair were mocked for the design of their wedding invites.
Earlier this week, US news outlet ABC News published a portion of the wedding invites, which featured pink and blue graphics of stars, birds, butterflies and illustrations of gondolas for that ~Venice feel~.
“We are excited for you to join us! We have one early request: please, no gifts,” the invitation began.
“Instead, we’re making contributions in your honour and with gratitude to you for making the journey to celebrate with us in Venice.
“Donations on your behalf are being made to the UNESCO Venice Office to safeguard this city’s irreplaceable cultural heritage, to CORILA to restore the vital lagoon habitats that protect Venice’s future, and to Venice International University to support research and education for sustainable solutions.
“This magical place has gifted us unforgettable memories. Our hope is that through these efforts and by you joining us, Venice will continue to inspire wonder for generations to come.”
Shortly after it was published, the internet wasted no time in roasting the billionaire for his “ugly ass” invitiation.

Taking to his peer’s social media platform, Elon Musk‘s X (formerly known as the stan haven we all miss, Twitter), netizens DRAGGED the fuck out of the invitation.
“JEFF BEZOS as in one of the RICHEST MEN ALIVE ann this ugly ass fucking wedding invite?? A five-year-old could have drawn flowers and grass with crayons, and it would be better,” one person wrote.
“Was the invitation made in Microsoft Paint?” another joked.
“I thought the font on the world’s richest man’s wedding invite would be a bit different,” a third penned.
Some folks also aimed at the “no gift” request, with many joking that they would be sending Amazon gift cards or Amazon products.
The online dragging comes shortly after inside sources confirmed the pair had moved their wedding venue from Venice’s Scuola Grande della Misericordia to the city’s Aresenale, which is only accessible via its connecting bridges.
You see, for weeks, residents and protestors have been lobbying against the billionaire bonanza, highlighting that the shindig would turn the floating city into a “private amusement park for the rich” and add to Europe’s overtourism issue.
Shortly after it was confirmed that the pair had moved their wedding — which was reportedly over security concerns and protests — Tommaso Cacciari, the leader of the “No Space for Bezos” campaign, told Reuters, “The news that Bezos has run away from the Misericordia is a great victory for us”. However, promised that the group would be making the nuptials a “nightmare: for the pair.
Per The Guardian, the group reportedly threatened to fill Venice’s canals with inflatable crocodiles, preventing guests from attending the wedding.
The wedding is set to take place some time later this week, but if you see plastic crocs in the canals, we’ll know what’s up!
