Madhya Pradesh’s Sarthak Agrawal said it was his love for science that helped him score good marks as he secured the 66th rank in JEE Advanced 2018, the result of which was declared on Sunday.
Sarthak is the state topper in the examination held for admission to the premier Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), claimed coaching institutes in the state.
“I never counted the hours of study because I always enjoy learning science and mathematics. I used to study till I got tired. I used to go to a park for a walk and also talk to my parents and teachers to relax,” the 17-year-old said.
A resident of the small town of Datia, 405 km north of Bhopal, Sarthak said daily revision is very important to clarify concepts and he followed it rigorously.
“After coaching classes, I used to revise all the topics and, in case of any difficulty, I tried first to clear up misconceptions by reading the concepts in detail in books. Teachers helped me a lot in understanding the concept,” he added.

“I have been interested in research since childhood. In school, I made many science models. I also love to do computer programming. In future, I want to do research to invent something which will help the mankind,” the son of a businessman father and homemaker mother said.
Sarthak shifted to Gwalior two years ago from Datia to prepare for JEE Advanced. He scored 96.4% marks in the Class 12 board exam held by the Central Board of Secondary Education this year.
Haryana’s Pranav Goyal scored 337 marks to top the JEE Advanced 2018, Sahil Jain from Rajasthan grabbed the second rank and Kailash Gupta from Delhi got the third position.
More than 1,50,000 students across the country appeared for the first-ever completely computer-based Joint Entrance Examination (Advanced) held on May 20.
The maximum number of candidates — 38,231— appeared from IIT Madras zone, followed by IIT Delhi with 31,884, IIT Bombay with 28,813, IIT Kanpur with 20,428, IIT Kharagpur with 19,145, IIT Roorkee with 14,414 and IIT Guwahati with 11,907.
This year, 18,138 students have cleared the mark and will be vying for 11,290 seats.
