Jedward have divided fans thanks to their tweet regarding Prime Minister Liz Truss and Queen Elizabeth II.
The former X Factor stars, both 30, took to Twitter earlier this afternoon [September 8] to crack what some consider to be a bad taste joke involving the Prime Minister's recent meeting with the Head of State, as concerns over the Queen's health continue.
While many Twitter users have retweeted and 'liked' the quip from the Irish twins, many have slammed the pair for the timing of their commentary - with some telling the two stars 'it's not the time for jokes' and ordering the duo to grow up, as the Queen remains under medical supervision.
Buckingham Palace issued a rare statement on the Queen's health earlier today [September 8] to inform the public that she remains comfortable and is staying at Balmoral. The statement said: "Following further evaluation this morning, The Queen’s doctors are concerned for Her Majesty’s health and have recommended she remain under medical supervision.
Prince Charles, Camilla and Prince William have rushed to Balmoral to be by her side while other members of the royal family were informed of the news earlier this afternoon. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were due to attend the WellChild Awards ceremony in London this evening, but have changed their plans in light of the news.
Amid the news breaking, Jedward - aka John and Edward Grimes - took to their joint Twitter account to write: "Liz truss must have done something on that visit to the Queen!"
The two singers were seemingly referencing Truss' visit to see the Queen at Balmoral Castle on Tuesday, as she succeeds Boris Johnson as leader of the Conservative Party and the United Kingdom's Prime Minister.
"You pair are a disgrace," one angry Twitter user told Jedward in response to their comment. "This is someone’s mum, gran etc. Imagine how you’d feel if someone said something about your mum before she died!!!"
Another quote-tweeted their quip and wrote: "I’m absolutely horrified at some of the insensitive tweets doing the rounds about the queen on her death bed. People should be ashamed of themselves."
"I mean love or hate her, she’s still someone’s mummy, granny and sister. So I guess this isn’t the time for jokes x," a third replied to the two singers, as another added: "not appropriate to joke about, is it?"
Some Twitter users rushed to Jedward's defence as criticism began to flood Twitter, with one fan of the two men tweeting: "Good luck cancelling Jedward, melts."
At the time of reporting, Jedward's tweet is still live and currently has over 2,600 'likes'.
