Calling all wannabe French girls, Rouje by Jeanne Damas is the brand for you.
Admittedly, her fashion label is at the intersection of sophistication and sensuality. Here, nostalgic Parisienne basics come into play with a line that consists of mini-skirts, flared jeans cropped at the ankle and simple floral dresses. Naturally, anchored by the classique color palette of bleu, blanc and rouge.
“I have always been surrounded by women with strong personality and feminine, my mother, my sister, my aunts, my friends.I am fascinated by the look they can have – simple details such as a step, a way of speaking, a gesture, a way of wearing a garment. “
Felicity Carter: What’s your first fashionable memory?
Jeanne Damas: My mother comes to mind. I remember when she would take me to school when I was younger; her long blonde curly hair, floral dresses and heels.
FC: How did your own line come about?
JD: I wanted to create my ideal wardrobe, where I could share with the world the things that I like to wear every day. I also love finding treasures from vintage stores – vintage elements have always been prevalent throughout my collections.
FC: Describe your aesthetic…
JD: Effortless, chic, and timeless.
FC: What shapes, materials and color palettes are you most attracted to?
JD: Bleu, blanc, rouge – blue, white, red! I love sensual materials like silk or cashmere.
FC: Who is your customer?
JD: Free-spirited and independent women of all ages.
FC: When you’re not wearing Rouje, which other brands are you wearing?
JD: I like to support my friends’ lines like: Vanessa Seward, Yasmine Eslami, Jacquemus, Nathalie Dumeix.
FC: How was Paris and also your travels influenced your designs?
JD: I’ve developed a habit of people-watching. In Paris, I love watching all kinds of people walking by from my apartment terrace and while I’m traveling the world, I enjoy observing all the people in airports. My inspiration comes from the people I may not know but see all around me.
