Smiles on faces showed double delight as girls at Jeanfield Swifts celebrated a very successful season.
The club’s Under-14 Jags picked up a pair of trophies after winning the League Cup Plate East and the East Region Lucy Graham League thanks to a campaign packed full of special memories.
Manager of the team, Kevin Heller, has watched the dedicated group of players go from strength to strength and this week shared his pride in their success.
“This time last year we finished bottom of the league,” he told the Perthshire Advertiser. “We were never badly beaten, but lost more than we won.
“I tried to get across to the team to believe in themselves. That is the big thing now - they believe they are good players.
“The majority was the same squad from last season and we also made a couple of good additions.
“They love their football, have great banter together and we have team building events too. This season you could see their confidence growing and our numbers have been good at every training session. They are a committed bunch.”
Watching the team celebrate trophy triumphs makes all the hours of commitment worth it for Kevin.
He said: “It gives my weekend a real buzz when they are doing well.
“There are two different Kevs, depending on the result! It used to be Saints that did that to me, but now it is this team.
“You do it for them. You get a real bond with the team and all of the parents are really supportive too.
“We had a bit of a party on Saturday night to celebrate winning the double. It is a really good community feel.”
Kevin, with a smile, added: “We’ll move up a tier now and the aim next season is pretty much to do the same again - no pressure!”
