Jeanfield Swifts to welcome St Johnstone development squad for Jamie Reid's testimonial match

Jeanfield Swifts stalwart Jamie Reid will have the spotlight turned in his direction next month.

The loyal full-back is being given a testimonial for his lengthy service at the Perth club.

And to mark the occasion a St Johnstone development squad will pitch up at the Riverside for what is sure to be an entertaining fixture on Sunday, July 23.

The match will kick-off at 1pm and Swifts said more details will follow in due course.

Manager Robbie Holden was quick to praise Reid’s dedication while making sure to highlight that the defender still has plenty to offer.

“St Johnstone always bring a strong youthful side so it will be a great day for Jamie,” Holden explained to the PA.

“He will have a select squad from over the years of current and past players.

“It’s rare for players to give the service he has and he deserves all the credit in the world for his commitment.

“He’s a big character and still has a lot to offer - he’s like a kid still on the training park.”

Reid’s loyalty to the club was in full focus back in 2021 when he shifted holiday plans in the Caribbean to make a Scottish Cup game away at Annan Athletic.

“He wasn’t going to miss that big game and to move a holiday showed the type of person he is,” Holden added. “I’m sure his partner Jade would have been delighted!"

With a smile, Holden continued: “But in fairness he has about five luxury holidays a year so he makes up for it.”

Holden, a former striker with the club, has recently taken the reins as Swifts’ new manager.

“We had our first session on Saturday,” he revealed.

“It was a tough session - a double session - but the players worked hard and we welcome a few more back this week.”

Early arrivals have included Pat Brown from Kinnoull and Olly Hamilton from Luncarty, where Holden was previously in charge.

He has also been impressed with a number of the youngsters stepping up from the Under-20s.

“We are still working on transfers but the squad is already quite big and we want to give the current players an opportunity to stake a claim as well,” Holden explained.

“I think there are one or two that will surprise with the quality they have and we have 10 who have either come from or are in the Under 20s training with us at the moment.”

Swifts will again be plying their trade in the East of Scotland League’s Premier Division and will this coming season be battling it out with fellow Perthshire teams Kinnoull and Luncarty.
