Republican vice presidential candidate JD Vance has expressed support for former President Donald Trump's suggestion of potentially using the National Guard or military to address riots that may occur after the 2024 election. Vance emphasized that the use of such assets would be justifiable in the event of rioting, looting, and city destruction. He pointed out that the appropriateness of deploying these resources would depend on the specific circumstances.

Vance highlighted the presence of a group of far-left activists who engaged in harassment and violence towards fellow Americans in 2016 and during the aftermath of George Floyd's death in 2020. He defended Trump's previous comments regarding the handling of riots, including praising Minnesota Governor Tim Walz for his actions in Minneapolis following Floyd's death. Vance acknowledged the challenges faced by cities like Detroit, attributing them to what he described as failed national leadership.

During a news conference in Minneapolis, Vance reiterated Trump's remarks about Detroit, stating that the city's residents are proud but have encountered difficulties due to inadequate leadership. He emphasized the importance of effective leadership in realizing Detroit's potential for a prosperous future. Trump recently cautioned against the possibility of the entire country facing challenges similar to those of Detroit if Vice President Kamala Harris were to win the 2024 election.
