Republican vice presidential nominee JD Vance had a light-hearted encounter with Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris on an airport tarmac during their respective campaign travels. Vance jokingly mentioned that he wanted to check out his potential future plane as he walked over to Air Force Two, where Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, had just landed. Vance also took the opportunity to express his disappointment that Harris had not engaged with the media through extended interviews or press conferences since the start of her campaign.
Despite his efforts, Vance was unable to speak directly to Harris during the encounter. It is not uncommon for opposing candidates to cross paths during a general election campaign, particularly in key battleground states crucial for winning the Electoral College.
Vance playfully remarked that he did not receive a wave from Harris as she departed. On the same day, he campaigned in Wisconsin as a response to Harris and Walz's joint tour of battleground states, which kicked off with a rally in Philadelphia.
In a light-hearted tone, Vance expressed his willingness to debate Harris on August 13, referencing a previously scheduled matchup that would have featured them as vice presidential rivals before Biden withdrew from the race.
