Jayson Tatum reveals he learned of Udoka suspension on Twitter

The Boston Celtics are hosting the club’s annual media day less than a week after the suspending head coach Ime Udoka for the season. The news broke as Boston wrapped up an internal investigation.

Even within the organization, few were aware of the situation.

At Celtics media day on Monday, All-Star Jayson Tatum was asked about the scandal and how he feels about what comes next.

“I guess I feel like everybody else.” Tatum said. “It’s a lot to process. Unexpected. Especially coming into this season, you feel a certain way coming off last year and that you’re excited. Just a lot, if I’m being honest.”

Later during his media day interview session, Tatum was asked how he learned about Udoka’s suspension. His answer was jarring.

“**** on Twitter, like everybody else.”

Last week team governor Wyc Grousbeck and President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens revealed the team brought in outside legal counsel as soon as it became aware of unwanted comments from Udoka to a female staffer. Since then, discretion has been a high priority for Boston, perhaps to the detriment of the players themselves.

You can see Tatum’s full comments below.
