Jaylen Brown wants to win a title with the Boston Celtics

With Jaylen Brown having made comments in recent interviews that made the Georgia native sound noncommittal about his future with the Boston Celtics beyond his current contract, a number of fans grew understandably worried the star forward might not be happy in Boston.

But Brown recently shed new light on his thinking about the Celtics organization if not the city they play in during an interview with ESPN’s “Keyshawn, JWill, and Max” show.

“I want to win a championship of course,” said the Georgia native when asked what he wants from his future with Boston. “I think that’s what every player and every athlete plays this game for, to win.”

Asked specifically if he wanted to do that with the Celtics, Brown replied “Absolutely! Why not? I think we have got a great opportunity right now here, so I’m looking forward to the playoffs.”

Does this mean we can bank that the former Cal standout will be back in green and white for the duration of his NBA career? Certainly not — or even that he will re-sign with the Celtics.

But if Brown is unhappy with some aspect of his tenure in the city besides the concerns he’s raised in other interviews, it isn’t showing in this exchange. Boston still needs to thread the needle of being able to offer him the sort of deal he’d sign in an organization and city that beckons him to do so.

But it seems they have put in the work in that regard, and our take on this slow dance between the organization and Brown is merely the latter doing his due diligence to get all he deserves as a star in his own right in this league.
