Jayden Reed, MarShawn Lloyd dealing with minor injuries to start Packers training camp

The Green Bay Packers didn’t have receiver Jayden Reed or rookie running back MarShawn Lloyd during Monday’s opening training camp practice, but the expectation is both will be back on the practice field soon.

General manager Brian Gutekunst said Reed suffered an injury — later revealed to be a toe injury — during a recent football camp in the Green Bay area. According to Bill Huber of SI, Lloyd hurt his hip after reporting to training camp with the rest of the rookies last week.

Neither player is expected to be out long.

Reed, who is on the non-football injury list, isn’t concerned with his toe injury, per Matt Schneidman of The Athletic.

Reed, a second-round pick in 2023, led the Packers in receptions as a rookie last season. Gutekunst echoed Reed’s lack of concern over the injury.

Lloyd, a third-round pick this year, believes he’ll be back “sooner rather than later,” per Huber. He isn’t currently on any injury list.

The rookie out of USC is competing with A.J. Dillon and Emanuel Wilson for the No. 2 job behind veteran addition Josh Jacobs, so any missed practice time could complicate the task. The Packers don’t practice in pads until later in the week, so it’s possible Lloyd could be back in time for the important running back reps.

Coach Matt LaFleur said Lloyd won’t be out long but will likely miss practices on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Others to miss practice on Monday included tight end Tucker Kraft, who is still recovering from offseason surgery on a torn pectoral, and rookie safety Kitan Oladapo, who had offseason surgery on an injured toe. Veterans Caleb Jones and Corey Ballentine are dealing with hamstring injuries.
