LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels won the Heisman Trophy on Saturday night in what the ESPN broadcast noted was the closest Heisman race since 2018.
Daniels edged out Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr. by 328 votes, which is the closest margin since Kyler Murray defeated Tua Tagovailoa by 296 votes in 2018.
Like that contest, both Daniels and Penix will likely be starting NFL quarterbacks on Sundays after their college careers end.
Oregon quarterback Bo Nix placed third with 885 votes, while Ohio State wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. placed fourth with 352 votes.
The two players who received the most votes without being named a finalist are Florida State quarterback Jordan Travis (85 votes) and Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe (73 votes).

Daniels is the second quarterback in LSU history to take home the Heisman, joining 2019 winner Joe Burrow. He’s the Tigers’ third winner overall.
Penix is the only Heisman finalist who will contend for a national title next month, while Daniels, Nix and Harrison will all be eligible to play in their teams’ respective bowl games.
However, they could also opt out of playing in them and declare for the 2024 NFL Draft instead.
