Jayden Daniels doesn’t want to be compared to Lamar Jackson

The Beltway rivalry is on this Sunday when the Washington Commanders visit the Baltimore Ravens. It’s a matchup of the two highest-scoring offenses in the NFL, as well as two of the league’s most exciting playmaking quarterbacks in Baltimore’s Lamar Jackson and Washington’s Jayden Daniels.

The two signal callers are, of course, at very different points in their careers. Daniels, 23, is a rookie who has only played five games thus far. Jackson, 27, is in his seventh season and he already has two NFL MVP awards to his credit.

“I don’t like when people try to compare me to Lamar,” last year’s Heisman Trophy winner told the media this week.

“We’re two different players. I want to be known as Jayden Daniels and not the next such-and-such.”

Daniels is 101-131 (77% completion) passing on the season, for 1,135 yards, four touchdown passes and two interceptions.

The second overall pick in this year’s draft, out of LSU, has also rushed 57 times for an even 300 yards and four touchdowns.

Meanwhile, Jackson is 98 of 150 (65% completion) passing for 1,206 yards, nine touchdown passes, and one interception. On the ground, he’s run 53 times for 363 yards and two touchdowns.

So this game will feature two QBs who are as dual threat as it gets. Daniels continued praising Lamar.

“I like watching good quarterback play,” Daniels said.

“I’m a fan of his, and how he plays the game, how he approaches the game. But we’re two different quarterbacks, two different styles.

“I appreciate what he’s done for the sport and what he’s done for the African American quarterbacks.”

“But for me it’s just, go out there and try to be unique and try to be different from everybody. Appreciate what they do because you can always learn from other quarterbacks in the league. I’m not closed-minded.”

He’s absolutely right about that- while there is always something that you can take from this player, or that player out there, the best and truly only thing that anyone can be is themselves.
