Jayde Adams gives 'Liz Truss lettuce' nod with Strictly outfit

Bristolian Jayde Adams admitted her dress choice on Strictly: It Takes Two was a nod to a vegetable which went viral during Liz Truss' disastrous reign as Prime Minister. Jayde appeared on the BBC Two show tonight (October 24) after being eliminated from Strictly Come Dancing yesterday.

While say speaking to host Rylan Clark alongside her dance partner Karen Hauer, the Bedminster-native wore a bright lime-coloured dress. It included ruffled sections which looked a bit like lettuce leaves.

This led to people on social media speculating whether Jayde was paying tribute to the Daily Star's 'Liz Truss lettuce' with her outfit. The wilting 60p iceberg lettuce from Tesco has become somewhat of an internet phenomenon in recent weeks as it outlasted the Prime Minister's grip on power.

And when she was quizzed about her dress choice on Twitter, Jayde confirmed it was a tip of the cap to the lettuce, which had been adorned with a number of items by the time Ms Truss resigned, including eyes and a wig.

@GeorgieHeath27 Tweeted: "Jayde Adams dressed as ‘The Lettuce’ on Strictly It Takes Two is broadcasting dreams this Monday. I really hope this is intentional because it’s fire and she’s rocking it. @jaydeadams @bbcstrictly #ItTakesTwo."

Jayde replied: "It was intentional. #ittakestwo #strictly #lettuceWatch."

The weekend saw Strictly celebrate the BBC's 100th anniversary, with many of the dancers preforming to iconic show tunes. Jayde and partner Karen gave it their all with a Charleston to The Ballad of Barry & Freda (Let's Do It) by Victoria Wood honouring BBC Comedy.

Despite their efforts, the duo landed a spot in the dreaded dance-off alongside Molly Rainsford and Carlos Gu. After their performances, judges Motsi Mabuse, Shirley Ballas and Anton Du Beke all decided to save Molly and Carlos, which meant Jayde would have to leave.

Speaking on tonight's show, Jayde admitted she had a feeling her time was up. She said: "I sort of knew. Craig was quite deflated which is always the kiss of death on this show.

"As soon as he was deflated, I just had a feeling. In between the main show and the results, I had this feeling the whole time."

Ms Truss will officially leave Number 10 tomorrow and be replaced by Rishi Sunak. Downing Street confirmed the new Conservative Party leader will meet with King Charles III in the morning to formally accept Westminster's top job.
