Jayde Adams among Bake Off host favourites after Matt Lucas departure

Jayde Adams' recent Strictly stint appears to have put her in the shop window for top TV jobs as she has been highlighted as one of the favourites to step into the Great British Bake Off tent. Speculation is growing like bread in a proving drawer about who will replace Matt Lucas on the smash hit Channel 4 show.

Earlier this week, the Little Britain star announced he was leaving the Bake Off, saying he was "cheerfully passing the baguette" to someone else to present alongside Noel Fielding. Matt became a co-host in 2020 when he replaced Sandi Toksvig.

Producers of the show have not said who will be replacing Matt in the famous white tent. However, there is plenty of talk about who could be stepping into his shoes, the Mirror reports.

Ladbrokes is offering odds on Matt's replacement and one of the candidates mentioned is Bedminster's Jayde. The bookmaker currently has her at 7/1 to enter the tent as host.

The favourite to replace Matt is fellow comedian Joe Lycett, who has odds of 7/2. Former Bake Off champion Nadiya Hussain also has short odds of 4/1 to step in while Amelia Dimoldenberg is also in the running at 5/1.

Other Strictly stars also get a mention in the odds with Ellie Taylor currently at 6/1 to become the new co-host. Comedians Judi Love and former Bake Off: The Professionals host Tom Allen have odds of 8/1 and 10/1 respectively.

Speaking about the current odds, Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: "Matt Lucas was the cherry on the Bake Off cake and it's certainly going to take a big personality to replace him. The early odds suggest that honour could be heading in Joe Lycett's direction, although we wouldn't be surprised to see Channel 4 chiefs make a move for Amelia Dimoldenberg."

Matt Lucas announced this week he is stepping away from the Bake Off tent (Channel 4)

In his statement, Matt said: "Farewell Bake Off! It’s been a delicious experience and I can’t imagine a more fun way of spending my summers. But it’s become clear to me that I can’t present both Fantasy Football League and Bake Off alongside all my other projects.

"So, after three series and 51 episodes, I am cheerfully passing the baguette on to someone else.

"I would like to give my warmest thanks and gratitude to everyone at Love Productions and Channel 4 and to Noelipops, Paul, Dame Prue, the crew and, of course, the wonderful bakers for welcoming me into the tent. I wish whoever takes over the very best and I can’t wait to tune into the next series without already knowing who won!"
