Washington Commanders fans have once again been teased that Jay-Z could takeover the club, by getting comfortable in the owners suite as the New England Patriots took on the Buffalo Bills.
The rapper has been linked with taking over the NFL side after current owner Dan Snyder announced he was exploring a possible sale. Jay-Z could be partnered by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, and the pair have since been spotted out for dinner following claims.
Jay-Z was sat next to Patriots owner Robert Kraft on Thursday night, getting a taste for what it might be like to sit in a similar seat more regularly. Snyder is said to be chasing a fee of $7bn (£5.9bn) for the Commanders, and Bezos has since hinted that a dual ownership with Jay-Z hasn't been ruled out.
Snyder has hired Bank of America to explore the sale of the team, with the Commanders owner wanting £5.9bn, while it's said to be valued at roughly $5.6bn (£4.8bn). He has owned the Washington franchise since 1999 and the 57-year-old already has four interested buyers, according to Forbes.
But Bezos and Jay-Z could put together a high-profile consortium, something that the Amazon founder failed to dismiss when asked. Speaking with CNN, Bezos didn’t dismiss the rumours, but instead gave a very coy response when responding to the possibility of him purchasing the Commanders. "Yes, I’ve heard that buzz," Bezos said.
"I grew up in Houston, Texas, and I played football growing up as a kid… and it is my favourite sport… So we’ll just have to wait and see."
Bezos already owns the Washington Post, and also has a deal with the NFL through Amazon Prime. The Amazon founder is also fond of the Commanders, and a takeover does make sense due to his other interests.
But reports have stated that a takeover bid would also include rapper Jay-Z, with the musician 's worth estimated at $1.3billion (£1.1bn) by Forbes and he has reportedly joined forces with Bezos. The duo reportedly enjoyed a meal together for more than two hours, with many thinking the Commanders were discussed.
And links began to spiral after a statement from the Commanders confirmed that they were open to selling the organisation. "The Snyder's remain committed to the team, all of its employees and its countless fans to putting the best product on the field and continuing the work to set the gold standard for workplaces in the NFL," the statement read.
The owners have been under fire for some time, while an investigation takes place. The investigation is looking into workplace culture under Snyder' leadership.
But that's not the only controversy, as the investigation is coupled with one from the NFL for alleged sexual misconduct, which previously resulted in a $10million (£4.7m) fine for the team.
