Jay Slater latest: Missing teenager's mother says Tenerife search is 'no holiday' in response to online trolls

Jay Slater’s mother has hit back at online trolls as she insisting her search for the missing Brit in Tenerife is “no holiday”.

Debbie Duncan has been looking for her 19-year-old bricklayer son on the Spanish island after he disappeared on June 17 following a night out.

The family have been searching for answers but their efforts have been undermined by DIY detectives and online trolls.

“My beautiful son Jay is still missing and believe me this is no holiday,” Ms Duncan wrote on the official Jay Slater Missing Facebook group.

She has also helped gather and distribute donations for the campaign and has also pledged to make best use of the £50,000 raised through the GoFundMe campaign

“For those of you who are more concerned around the Gofundme page I can assure you that up to now it has not been used and our stay up to now has been financed by ourselves,” she said.

On June 16, Mr Slater attended the NRG music festival on the Canary Island but left his own friends to go with two men to an Airbnb.

The next morning he missed a bus back and called his friend to say he was lost in Rural de Teno park with 1 per cent phone battery and no water.

He said he would attempt to walk back the 11-hour journey and has not been heard from since.

A large search effort was called off by the Spanish Civil Guard last week.

Ms Duncan said this week: “Jay is a normal guy who is in his third year of an apprenticeship, and he is a very popular young man with a large circle of friends.

“We are a very close family and are absolutely devastated about his disappearance. Words cannot describe the pain and agony we are experiencing.

“He is our beautiful boy with his whole life ahead of him and we just want to find him.”

On Friday, his friend Lucy Law posted a picture on Instagram of their pair.
