Jay Leno says pal 'saved his life' after suffering serious burns in horror car fire

Jay Leno says his pal 'saved his life' during the horrific car fire in his garage.

The TV presenter, 72, reportedly praised his 'buddy Dave' who 'smothered the flames' after the blaze broke out in his Burbank garage.

Jay is currently recovering in a burn centre after the fire at his Los Angeles garage where he keeps his multi-million-pound luxury car collection.

"I got some serious burns from a gasoline fire. I am ok. Just need a week or two to get back on my feet," he told The Mirror last night.

But now, reports suggest that the quick-thinking from Jay's pal Dave prevented the terrifying ordeal from being a fatal incident.

According to TMZ, Jay told the outlet his buddy Dave was "right there" during the blaze and "jumped on him, quickly smothering the flames".

They reported that the left side of Jay's face was badly burned. His hands were burned as well.

Quoting Jay, they reported that he's now 'dealing with 3rd-degree burns' and 'may need skin grafts'.

The Mirror has contacted Jay's reps for an update.

He had been due to perform at a financial conference in Las Vegas on Sunday night, but was left unable to attend due to the serious injury to the left side of his face.

The cancelation of Jay's Sunday night performance was confirmed to Forum 2022 attendees in an email issued by The Financial Brand.

"His family was not able to provide us very many details, but there was a very serious medical emergency that is preventing Jay from traveling.

"All we know is that he is alive, so our prayers go out to him and his family tonight," the email stated, according to People.

Jay has an extensive fleet of expensive vehicles as he owns 181 cars and 160 motorcycles.

Jay's collection is worth more than $52million (£44million) and includes the likes of a 2009 Aston Martin DBS, 2015 BAC Mono and a 1909 Baker Electric.

He has previously been open about his health and works to raise awareness of the importance of routine check-ups and healthy eating.

"There's a lot of people walking around like that, they're just time bombs. You've got all this cholesterol, you don't realize it until it actually hits, you know?

"It's like in a car, if even one piece of dirt gets in the eye of the needle of the jet, and boom and no more gas comes through.

"And that's what happens with your heart," Jay said in an interview with People.
